New rules and regulations at Calvary Cemetery sparks local reaction - WAOW
Jun 25, 2019
WAOW) New rules and regulations but not enough time. One of the many rule changes at the Calvary Cemetery are one shepards hook per headstone. Families placing memorials next to their loved ones headstones, have recently been removed. The matching shepards hooks Joan Garcia and her husband picked out before he passed, now gone.”I can’t even get that shepards hook back that was next to my husbands headstone to put it in my yard as a remembrance of that special day we spent together” said Joan Garcia of Wisconsin Rapids. The changes coming as of May 8th, 2019 for personal items left next to a headstone. The announcement was made online and in church bulletins, days before the rules became effective.“We came out here two days later to change what needed to be changed and realized our stuff is gone, was already gone like it was nowhere in the cemetery” said Heather Vancil of Wisconsin Rapids.Memorials left for loved ones are so important to their family members and Vancil said “they cant go back and correct what they did.”To many others, a headstone is all they have left of their loved one. Friends of Garcia and Vancil lost their son Dexten at just 15 months old, they said the headstone is the most important thing to the Peck family and if something were to be removed from the Dexten’s memorial, the family would be devastated. It’s not the first time families have had problems with the Calvary Cemetery, last year families voiced their concerns with upkeep issues but now all they want is those remembrances of loved ones lost. ...
